US stocks extended gains on Wednesday as a stronger-than-expected consumer sentiment reading and a drop in crude oil prices fuelled hopes for robust holiday spending and a year-end rally.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 47 points, or 0.44 percent, at 10,918.73. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 5.86 points, or 0.48 percent, at 1,267.23. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index was up 9.50 points, or 0.42 percent, at 2,263.06.
