The European Union sold 73,000 tonnes of white sugar at a maximum rebate of 39.374 euros per 100 kg at Thursday's tender, EU data said.
The data said bids for 158,750 tonnes were offered. One trader said that of the 73,000-tonne total, traders in France received 8,000 tonnes, in Germany 15,000 tonnes, in Belgium 30,000 tonnes, and in Britain 20,000.
A second trader also said traders in Britain had received 20,000 tonnes, but he had no data on the other countries. Official confirmation of the country-by-country breakdown was not immediately available.
