State Life Insurance Corporation (Slic) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft for the provision of computers at an affordable cost to the policyholders of the insurance firm.
The agreement was signed by Chairman Slic, Kamal Afsar, and Country Manager Microsoft Pakistan, Jawwad Rehman. The signing ceremony was held at the head office of Slic here on Friday.
The Chairman Slic said on the occasion that as part of corporate social responsibility, his firm is initiating various public service schemes to help bring socio-economic change in the country.
He also pointed out that this is in line with the present government's initiative of spreading computer literary in the country.
Kamal Afsar said that Slic and Microsoft have been working for the past several weeks on an ambitious and innovative project to equip the Slic policyholders with computer at an affordable cost.
" This will be extended as part of their insurance policy benefit to the policyholders of Slic in an effort by both organisations to collaborate and strive to take the nation to a newer level of computer literacy, he added."
Kamal Afsar further announced that both the Slic and Microsoft will be working together to formalise the specific details of this innovative Public Private Partnership to introduce quality computers with genuine Microsoft software, support and warranties to the Slic policyholders.
He believed that this will also help tackle the challenge of the digital divide being faced across Pakistan hindering progress and growth of the nation.
Jawwad Rehman was of the view that Microsoft Pakistan and Slic partnership will offer a great potential to make Pakistan computer literate with the availability of computer learning, communication, and help build required ICT skills of common people.
He pointed out that Microsoft Pakistan has 23 training centres across the country and that arrangements would also be made for 'floating trainers' to help meet the computer training needs in various parts of the country.
