"To realise the potential of our students and to boost our competitiveness, we must revolutionise our education system with the corresponding rapid changes in the filed of science and technology."
This was stated by the Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir, while addressing the 17th convocation of Pakistan Navy Engineering College held at Bahria Auditorium here on Saturday morning.
He said urged to promote active learning to collaborate with the market-based technological concepts and to meet the challenges of 21st century.
Admiral Tahir further said, "we need to produce world class graduates who can be absorbed in any competitive field anywhere in the world".
He urged the students to set up the tone, develop a vision and shape the behaviour of organisations to meet the requirements of real world.
He emphasised the students to put them in relentless efforts by whole-heartedly contribution towards strengthening the maritime frontiers of the country and broadening of the base of national industry for economic revitalisation.
Expressing his satisfaction over active involvement of Pakistan Navy Engineering College (PNEC) in research and development activities, he said that revision of curricula, expansion of labs and up-gradation of training equipment would help in pursuing students' academic goals and to explore and exploit the new horizons.
He also extended his felicitations to the passing out graduates particularly those who earned medals for their outstanding performance in academics.
Earlier, in his address, Rector National University of Science & Technology (NUST), Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Shujaat Hussain said that the university was fully cognisant to the need for broad based quality education and was striving hard to inculcate and promote quality indigenous research and development infrastructure in the country.
Commandant PNEC Commodore Tahir Waseem highlighted the performance of the students as well as the development of college infrastructure and modern educational facilities to the students.
Later, the chief guest Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir awarded degrees and medals to the passing out graduates.
