German chipmaker Infineon may buy a Japanese auto- or industrial electronics firm after the sale of its memory business, Chief Executive Wolfgang Ziebart said in an interview published on Saturday.
Infineon announced on Thursday that it planned to hive off its DRAM memory chip business, which faces tough competition and volatile prices, and in an interview with German financial newspaper Boersen-Zeitung Ziebart repeated that an initial public offering of the unit was his preferred disposal strategy.
The money raised from the sale is expected to be invested in strengthening Infineon's business, Boersen-Zeitung said.
