City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has asked Municipal Administration, New Karachi Town, to appoint sweepers and Kundi-men in each union council of the town on contractual basis to overcome shortage of sanitary staff.
He said this while addressing the Town Nazim, UC Nazims and counsellors of different union councils of the town during a visit to the town, on late Saturday, said a statement issued on Sunday.
He said that town administration must pay active attention towards resolution of sanitation problems being faced by the residents of the town.
Mustafa Kamal reiterated his commitment that City District Government Karachi (CDGK) will provide all possible assistance to administration of every town to improve the sanitary conditions in the entire city.
He directed town officials to present him an estimate within two days about the requirements for launching cleanliness campaign in the town.
Terming the privatisation of garbage removal network very important, the City Nazim said that it will be privatised very soon, that will not only improve the sanitary situation but also provide more revenues to the city government.
He directed the union council Nazims to point out the water supply and sewerage problems of their respective towns and directed the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board officials to resolve them. Any negligence will not be tolerated in this regard, he said.
The Nazim said that Rs 50 million have been allocated for upgradation of water supply and sewerage network of every town.
He said that KW&SB has been merged with district government at town levels and now the concerned KW&SB superintendent engineer will work under the town Nazim.
The Nazim said that the problems of masses will be resolved at grassroots level.
Town Nazim, Hanif Soorti, EDO, Works and Services, Syed Sarfraz and TMO Syed Akhtar were also present on the occasion.
