Health Minister Punjab Dr Tahir Ali Javed has said that damage of lives and properties in the earthquake is much more than the human estimates and the Punjab government has provided financial, medical and other assistance for the earthquake survivors.
"The government will continue to provide resources for our calamity-stricken brethren even beyond its capacity," he said, adding "provision of shelter and timely medical treatment facilities is the most urgent need at the moment for which the Punjab government has devoted all its energies."
He said that 13,000 beds had been prepared in various hospitals of Punjab where treatments along with surgical facilities were being provided to the injured persons.
He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation from the UK. The delegation included Mr. Richard, Dr Nabeela and Parhan Baig.
The minister said that the government had evolved a big project for the production of artificial limbs on an emergency basis for the persons, who became disable due to the earthquake. He said that support-a-family programme was being initiated by the Punjab government.
He said that under a rehabilitation programme of the quake-affected people, the arrangements have been made for psychotherapy, provision of accommodation and transportation to the injured persons to take them to their native villages after treatment.
He said that the Punjab government had sent 100 healthcare workers to spray in Azad Kashmir so that the people could be saved from epidemic diseases in the affected areas. He said that Punjab health department had also sent 40 teams to the quake-hit areas.
