Former ambassador Tariq Fatimi said on Monday that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz's participation in the Commonwealth conference was very necessary in the given geo-political global conditions.
Speaking in a PTV programme he said the participation of the Prime Minister in the conference remained highly productive and it would yield far-reaching results in the days to come.
He said: "The Commonwealth is an association of 53 countries having important involvement in contemporary international issues." Fatimi said that Pakistan's political and economic point of views were expected to be discussed critically in the forthcoming meeting of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) next month.
"Not only bilaterally but multilaterally, Pakistan has been striving to project the cause of developing nations before the comity of nations," he said, adding the country had extended far-reaching proposals in this respect.
"These proposals have wide ranging acceptance, particularly in the neighbouring countries."
During the conference, the United Kingdom was asked by the member countries to project the cause of developing countries at WTO meeting, he said and added that it was a significant development.
He said: "There is a vivid disparity among the rich and poor countries vis-à-vis international trade, particularly in the areas of agriculture products and modern technology."
These issues have been discussed by the CW conference and would also be raised at the WTO meeting, he said.
