The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Iftikhar Hussain Chaudhry administered oath to five confirmed judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) in a simple but impressive ceremony here on Thursday.
The judges, who took oath, are: Justice Sh. Sarfraz, Justice Muhammad Jahangir Arshad, Justice Fazal-e-Miran Chohan, Justice Azmat Saeed and Justice Umar Ata Bandial. The judges of the Supreme Court, High Court, law officers and senior members of the bar attended the ceremony.
The Chief Justice told newsmen on the occasion that he has already sent recommendations to the President for appointment of more judges in the LHC.
President Supreme Court Bar Association Malik Muhammad Qayyum said on this occasion that the government should appoint regular judges in higher judiciary instead of appointing additional judges.
He said: "There is dire need for strengthening the judiciary, which is also possible by appointing confirmed judges."
He was of the view that the government by appointing additional judges in the higher courts is undermining the judiciary.
