Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said he has honoured his pledge to grant, the status of a district to Nankana Sahib, which is the birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak, and now it will be transformed into a model city.
He said Nankana Sahib has equal importance for Muslims and Sikhs and a number of development projects have been initiated in this city for facilitating Sikh Yatrees. He said Chief Minister of Indian Punjab laid the foundation stone of the dual carriageway from Wagah to Nankana, of which, work is being completed expeditiously.
He was addressing a ceremony to place the gold Palki Sahib at Gurudwara Baba Guru Nanak, Nankana Sahib on Wednesday. Chief Minister of Indian Punjab, Captain Amrindar Singh, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Ijaz-ul-Haq, Chairman Evacuee Property Board, Lieutenant General Zulliqar AH Khan (Retd), District Nazim Nankana Sahib Pir Mumtaz Shah and others also spoke on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said that brotherly relations between Indian and Pakistani Punjab have a long history. He said that co-operation in sports, education and cultural sectors with the Indian Punjab was started three years ago but now these relations have further strengthened.
Chief Minister of Indian Punjab, Captain Amrindar Singh said that the measures taken for the preservation and renovation of sacred places of Sikhs were even better than those taken in India. He said Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is making effective arrangements for maintenance and upkeep of Sikh temples and other places of religious significance.
