In a series of five consultative workshops, the World Wide Funds for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-P) held the first such workshop titled 'Developing the Forest Programme for next 15 years for Pakistan' at Mirpur on Wednesday.
According to the WWF-P's spokesman, inaugural session of the workshop was attended by all the related departments and 40 professionals from AJK, including AJK Environment Minister Mir Ali Akbar Khan, Secretary Environment Sardar Khurshid Ahmad, Chief Conservative Forest Raja Khizer Hayat and Director Wildlife Yousaf Qureshi.
While addressing the participants of workshop, the AJK Environment Minister said they appreciated the initiative taken by WWF-P and assured their full support.
Speaking on the occasion, Environmental Education and Northern Areas Director Dr Ghulam Akbar said, "WWF-P has initiated this series of consultative workshops to understand and better manage the natural resources of Pakistan.
Lessons have been learnt after the earthquake and WWF-P would develop a 'forest programme' incorporating the lessons learnt during the recent earthquake."
The series of consultative workshops being conducted by WWF-P in collaboration with different departments such as wildlife, forest, fisheries, environment, local government, NGOs and other provinces of Pakistan, including the Government of AJK.
These workshops would focus on natural resources assessment, best management practices, pressure state response analysis, and framework for forest programme and action plan for the better management, utilisation and conservation of the natural forest resource of Pakistan.
