Necessary arrangements for undertaking development work on the establishment of an ultra modern engineering university in the city are being finalised and work on the project would be executed shortly.
The official sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday that the proposed engineering university would be developed over 200 acres of land on Sialkot-Eminabad road.
The Punjab government had issued a notification of the land allocation for the engineering university while the Punjab government had allocated Rs 90 million for the purpose, they added.
The proposed university would not only cater the needs of industrial sector of Sialkot but also produced skilled industrial force and industrial sector would be further flourished, the sources said.
Besides, it would also provide the opportunities to the students for acquiring the higher education at local level. The proposed university would provide broad base opportunities of industrial research and development to local industries like surgical instruments, sports goods and leather industry for resolving their problems pertaining to innovation of products. Under the present scenario, research and development become more imperative for bringing modernism in products to cope with the new global trends.
The Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) was extending financial assistance and co-operation in setting up an engineering university. For this purpose Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) would provide fund amounting to 0.13 million Euro as a matching grant to Royal Institute of Technology as matching grant.
The role of Swedish government would be instrumental in establishment of the proposed university and collaborate in providing the technical know-how. The Swedish government would also provide necessary assistance in formulation of faculties of the proposed engineering university of Sialkot.
The establishment of engineering university would be an addition and gift of the government for the future generations of this export-oriented city and hub of cottage industries of the country.
