Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that President Musharraf would announce the launch of Kalabagh Dam soon for the future of the country.
"It is imperative for the future of the country that water reservoirs should be built as soon as possible and personal liking and disliking has no role on these national issues", minister said while talking to reporters at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Government Postgraduate College for Women at Dhok Hasu, down town of the Rawalpindi.
It may be recalled that information minister who is representing the Rawalpindi in National Assembly has established more than 50 colleges for girls in the city while not a single college was set up for boys of the city.
The minister told reporters that country would face acute water shortage in coming future if water reservoirs were not constructed soon. "We need huge water for drinking, for agriculture and for our industry and if we have no reservoirs to save water wastage, it would be a severe problem in future", he added.
Sheikh Rashid dispelled the impression about handing over Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, the founding father of the nuclear programme of Pakistan and said that Dr Khan would not be handed over to any other country and no one would be allowed to investigate him regarding the nuclear proliferation. "We are co-operating with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) but there is no issue of handing over Dr Khan to any other agency or country", he added.
He declared President Musharraf's idea of reorganisation of OIC as very important and said that the reorganisation of the OIC would help resolve various issue like Palestine, Kashmir and other issue pending for a long time. Strong and effective OIC would better protect the rights and interests of the Muslims round the globe and play an effective role in socio-economic stability of the country, he maintained.
Responding to a question about the return of exiled prime minister Nawaz Sharif, he said that Nawaz Sharif and his family left the country under an agreement and they would not return before the expiry of this agreement. "It is human friendly nature of President Musharraf that he issued passport to Nawaz Sharif and his family for the treatment of his son in London", he said.
To another question about revolt against Chaudhry's in PML, Sh Rashid said that Chaudhry's are a reality in Pakistan Muslim League and revolt against them would prove nothing but a futile exercise. "All hidden or open enemies of Chaudhry's would face defeat on all fronts", he added.
Earlier addressing the function Sh Rashid said that education is imperative for country to attain the desired goals of socio-economic development in this era of science and technology.
He said that education in women is a positive trend, which has forced him to construct more and more colleges for girls of Rawalpindi. He said that girls education has increased 237 percent in past few years while the education trends among boys have shown downward trends with 60 percent decline. He said that two more colleges would be constructed at Dhok Illahi Bakhsh and Gowalmandi.
The minister said that after construction of colleges and schools his top most priority would be construction of hospitals for Pindi people. "A big hospital is under construction on Asghar Mall Road, while all hospitals of the city would be given a new look and equipped with all modern facilities", he added.
