National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Ameer Hussain said performance of the Assembly during last two to three years had remained very well and both treasury and opposition benches took equal interest in legislation and running of the house business.
Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, Chaudhry Ameer, however, admitted that in the first year government confronted with various constitutional matters due to which performance of the Lower House of Parliament was not up to the mark. This was the first assembly in which majority of legislators were youngsters, entering first time in the house, but even then its performance had been worthwhile in last two to three years.
"It will be the fist assembly, which will complete its term and I will be first speaker holding the office for the longest period," he said.
To a question about President's address to joint session of the parliament he said discussion in that regard had been completed and he had reserved his ruling in that regard.
To another question about passing derogatory remarks by an MNA against a minority member of the Lower House, he said he had handed the matter over to business committee of the house. And if it could not resolve the matter politically, he would take action according to the rules. In rules there were many remedies including suspension of a member.
