State Minister of Law, Justice and Human Rights Shahid Akram Bhindar has said that the government is taking remedial measures to ensure justice for vulnerable populations in earthquake areas of Azad Kashmir and to protect the property of orphaned children, women and missing persons and is vigilant against abduction and trafficking.
He was addressing a seminar arranged by the Directorate of Human Rights, Ministry of Law and Justice. Among others, chief co-ordinator National Volunteer Movement Brigadier Yasoob Dogar (Retd), Professor Mehdi Hassan and regional director Directorate of Human Rights Ishrat Awan addressed the seminar.
Minister Bhindar said that the earthquake shook the whole nation and added that 'the government alone cannot rehabilitate and help the survivors to lead a better life'.
He said: "The government is considering various measures such as imposing ban on land transfer in these areas for some time and also to issue identity documents to all people in the affected areas." He said that the government would continue to make all-out efforts to safeguard the human rights of the affected people in future also. He also thanked the Turkish brothers, who had come first to support the earthquake affectees.
The other speakers suggested that the government should evolve a drastic management strategy to tackle such natural events. All the instruments and tools should be available in all the major cities, they said. Special legislation should also be made to save the human rights of the innocent people on such events.
