After a comfortable win by England in the first one-day match in Lahore against match favourite Pakistan, the betting rates tilt slightly towards England and for the second one-dayer slated to be held on Monday the whispering rate was 60 paisa and 65 paisa respectively.
On Friday, Pakistan was hot favourite for the one-day series against England, as punters were of the opinion that the performance in the Test series might prove a morale-booster for the Pakistani players.
As it turned out, the Pakistani team was favourites to win and the betting rate was pegged at 50 paisa (Friday) as compared with 65 paisa for England.
Best batsman in the absence of Shahid Afridi has been tipped as Salman Butt, Mohammad Yousuf and Abdul Razzak while few odds were in favour of Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal and Younus Khan.
On the bowling side Shoaib Akhtar and Abdul Razzaq were expected to help to turn the table for Pakistan.
On the English side, Kevin Peterson, Peter Strasuss and Andrew Flintoff had the ability to dash Pakistan's hopes, which for all pratical purposes turned out to be a reality on Saturday and Pakistan lost the match because of the outstanding performance of a number of players including super-sub Plunket.
Pakistan lost first one-dayer by 42 runs following the mammoth score posted by England.
Regarding rates fixed for players scoring most of the runs and taking wickets, the people interested in betting said the rates would ne fixed after the toss and depending upon the team batting first.
But punters have enough confidence in the Pakistan side which crushed England 2-0 in the recently concluded three-Test series
It was the same England team that recorded a memorable victory over Australia in Ashes series during the English summer season.
Several people watching the match said likewise in Australia their cricket board pays $500 per catch to spectators, our cricket should also pay the people coming with stinging slogans. On Saturday several good playcards were raised when onslaught from Pakistan started, "demolition work being undertaken by Pakistan", "We love u (England) but want Pakistan to beat u" and "speculator shot" etc.
