Federal Relief Commissioner (FRC) Major General Farooq Ahmed has said that there is no danger from accumulation of water due to land-sliding at two places in earthquake-hit areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
He said steps have been taken for relocation of some hundreds of people living on the banks of the lakes in Hattian Bala town. He said authority would take step to ensure outflow of water, Asian Tribune reported.
The FRC said, the army will hand over the relief work in the
earthquake-hit areas with altitude below 5,000 feet to the civil administration soon.
He added that the army was helping the provincial governments to enhance their capacity so that they could stand on their feet and continue relief activities.
The army has so far constructed over 30 thousand shelters in the quake-hit areas with more than 5,000 feet altitude and distributed about 50,000 CGI sheets, he said, adding, another 40,000 sheets would be delivered in these areas shortly.
He said the government has made a Rs 500-million deal with the Pakistan Steel Mills for provision of corrugated steel sheets.
