The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) is planning to give recreational trips and other lucrative incentives to tax officials working in the fully reformed units, in addition to the double pay package they are already enjoying.
Sources told Business Recorder on Sunday that CBR would announce a new incentives package to encourage tax officers to show extraordinary performance in Large Taxpayer Units, Medium Taxpayer Units and the proposed Regional Tax Offices (RTOs).
According to CBR decision taken in the Bhurbun workshop, "As far as enhancement in the motivation level of tax officials is concerned, efforts should be made to provide housing, transport, health and recreational activities, in at least major cities, in addition to salary compensation to reform units. Tax managers should prepare a plan in this regard."
Meanwhile, the CBR employees of Grade-16 and below were not happy over CBR's move to keep on increasing pay package and financial incentives for officers only, ignoring the low grade employees.
This correspondent talked to over 50 CBR employees below Grade-16 to comment on the pay compensation package. They said that CBR was doing nothing to improve the financial position of low-grade employees.
They strongly criticised the role of CBR Human Resource Management (HRM) Wing, which they said was mum on the issue of giving any kind of incentive or allowance to the lower-grade employees. They expressed hope that the new Member HRM might consider any compensation package for these employees.
Most of CBR employees work daily till evening without obtaining any kind of extra allowance or bonus and, similarly, those working with the officials drawing double pay salary were not given any incentive. This has created inferiority complex among them due to continuous feeling of being ignored by the concerned ofricials.
CBR employees were surprised that the department was concerned only about the salary structure of tax officials enjoying double pay package and no one is worried about the problems being faced by the low-grade staff.
