A group of parliamentarians called on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in his chamber at the Parliament House on Monday and discussed with him matters of national importance including the ongoing relief measures for the quake victims.
Legislative agenda of the National Assembly and the development schemes currently being executed in the constituencies of the parliamentarians were also discussed.
The Prime Minister, who visited Rawalakot on Monday to further expedite the relief measures, apprised the parliamentarians of the progress being made in this connection, especially in view of fast-approaching extreme winter and snowfall.
He said that all government agencies and departments, particularly Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority and the Federal Relief Commission, are doing a fine job with regard to relief and reconstruction.
The Prime Minister said that the government remains committed to providing speedy relief to the affected people and to undertaking reconstruction and rehabilitation in the quake-hit areas.
Matters relating to co-ordination with the opposition also came under discussion. The Prime Minister said that in times of national emergency like the one the country is facing these days "all of us must rise to the occasion as the victims of the earthquake need a healing touch."
Those who met the Prime Minister included Minister for Law, Justice Wasi Zafar, Minister for Information Technology Awais Ahead Khan Leghari, Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, Special Advisor to PM Muhammad Ali Durrani, Ms Rozina Tufail, Chief Whip of PML Nasrullah Khan Dareshak and Mazhar Qureshi, MNA.
