The NWFP government is ready to take the management of all the tented villages established for the earthquake-survivors in the province.
In this regard, the federal government has been properly informed as was told to the provincial cabinet in a meeting held here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani at Chief Minister's Secretariat on Tuesday.
However, for the time being, the federal government has been asked that the Pak Army particularly its Engineering Corps should continue its activities in the inaccessible mountainous areas.
In all, there are 22 tented villages established and run by the Pak Army in which a population of 28,085 has been accommodated while 428 such villages have been established by different relief organisations and agencies wherein a population of 125,167 quake survivors have been accommodated.
Briefing the cabinet about the provincial government's preparation for taking management of these tented villages, the NWFP Relief Commissioner informed that for each tented village has a separate village administrative unit comprising 14 personnel headed by a Grade-17 officer has been chalked out which will take care of all relief and security arrangements of tented villages.
These tented villages being looked after by the Pak Army, one is situated at Mansehra in which 120 families with a population of 600 quake survivors; eight are established in Batgram with 2,656 tents for 2557 families having a population of 12,785 quake survivors.
In Ghari Habibullah, one tented village has been established with 736 tents for 620 families of a population of 3,100. In Balakot, seven tented villages of 1,528 tents have been established for 1440 families having a population of 7,200 quake survivors. In Battal, two tented villages have been established for 190 families while in Jabba, three tented villages have been established for 690 families each with a population of 950 and 3450 respectively.
The aforementioned, 428 tented villages with a population of 125,167 quake survivors are managed and looked after by different relief agencies and organisations in Mansehra, Batgram, Abbottabad, and Havellian.
The chief minister informed the Cabinet that the federal government has been conveyed the readiness of the provincial government for running and managing all these tented villages in earthquake affected areas. The cabinet was also informed that so far over Rs 6.25 billion has been distributed among 200,000 earthquake affectees.
It was informed that 25,520 bags of flour have been received from Turkey for distribution which is being stored in Havellian.
On this occasion, the chief minister directed the concerned authorities to properly verify the names and whereabouts of the affectees and in case any hanky-panky is found the responsible ones be awarded exemplary punishment.
After threadbare and open discussion, the provincial Cabinet, in principle, approved new service structure for para-medic staff of the health department, the provision of BPS-16 and 14 for Arabic teachers and theological teachers in education department respectively. And the adjustment of defunct oriental teachers (OTs) previously adjusted as CT teachers into Arabic teachers. However, the concerned authorities will work out the details of these provisions and bring back the case before the provincial government.
