People belonging to different walks of life have fully supported the construction of new dams for bringing green revolution and averting the threats of drought to the country in future.
The construction of Kalabagh and Bhasha dams has become more imperative and the issue should not be made controversial for the larger national interest.
Talking to Business Recorder here on Tuesday Sialkot District Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema said that construction of dams, like Kalabagh and Bhasha, had become more important to cope with the future needs and requirements pertaining to water and power of the country.
President General Pervez Musharraf has adopted a very realistic approach developing consensus on the construction of dams like Kalabagh and Bhasha dams and it should be given practical shape, he added.
Akmal Cheema said the maximum construction of dams in the country would help in bringing thousand acres of barren land under cultivation of land and pave the way for ensuring green revolution and supportive in attaining food autarky. The construction of big and small dams would help in edging out the possibilities of wastage of huge quantity of water while the existence of water reservoirs would open new vistas of prosperity and all-round development in the country, he opined. (Jammu Wala), while expressing his view said that construction of dams would help in generating inexpensive electricity not only for the common man but also for industrial sector of the country.
"At present, both common man and industrial sectors are facing serious hardships due high cost of the electricity," he said, adding, "it is high time that the government should announce the construction of dams at the earliest possible for protecting the agricultural and industrial sectors as well as to save the water from wastage."
