The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) Unions Action Committee has accused the company's management of violation of its commitments to the workers and warned of launching a fresh countrywide protest campaign, Rana Maqbool Ahmed, a senior member of the unions action committee told at a press conference here on Wednesday.
Flanked by a number of other union leaders, he charged the management of not fulfilling its commitment made on the occasion of the company's privatisation.
He said that all the union leaders would meet on Monday, December 18, and decide on the future line of action.
He charged that in violation of the agreement, PTCL has prepared to send about 1,900 contract workers home this month. They are to be issued termination letters soon, he added.
These employees are from different cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Abbotabad, Hyderabad and other cities of the country, he added.
Besides, other facilities have also been cut down like Eid reward, medical allowance, leave encashment, etc.
The medical facilities, which were usually paid to the workers in the major cities, have also been finished.
He said that according to the August agreement (between unions and management) the company had promised to pay the "Company Scale", which has not been implemented so far due to unknown reasons.
Maqbool said that the newly regularised employees of the company are not being given the privileges allowed to other employees.
