United Teachers Front (UTF), and Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) have decided to go on strike from December 20 and if all demands were not fulfilled before January 30, lakhs of teachers of the province would march towards Punjab Assembly and hold sit in.
"Punjab Government has targeted education sector and teachers are being treated as second class citizens and education system of the province is being ruined" said UTF President Zafeer Ahmed Satti and PTU President Chaudhary Sagheer Alam while talking to reporters here on Wednesday.
They were of the view that deliberate steps are being taken to destroy the education system of the province and teachers are being mal-treated in order to frustrate them and stop them from discharging their duties.
"Government has tied the hands of teachers under its scheme 'Ab mar nahi pyar' programme and they are being forced to beg before students", they maintained.
Terming the Local Government System a failure and said that even after complete failure of this system education system is being brought under this system. It has further aggravated the situation and people appointed for monitoring are misusing their authorities and are harassing teachers, they added.
They said that they have put the charter of demand before the higher authorities and asked them to resolve this issue for the sake of future of country.
They said that teachers are no against reforms but it should be positive and for the sake of betterment not just to please some blue eyed. Teachers have threatened to go on indefinite strike if these sham reforms were not taken back. They said that government should also withdraw the order of giving education system under control of District Governments.
They also demanded the withdrawal of the show cause notices sent to headmasters and teachers after matriculation examinations.
They were critical over the Constitution of Education Authority and making only one board saying that government wants to adjust some blue eyed and they should adjust them somewhere else not in education. They rejected the monitoring system of the provincial government and contract appointments in education department.
They told reporters that if these demands were not fulfilled they would go on strike from December 20 and on January 31 they would hold sit-in in front of Punjab Assembly.
