Transmission Motor Company would inaugurate first 3-S facility with the commencement of vehicle delivery to its customers from Friday, it was learnt here on Thursday. This vehicle named 'Alif' is an entry-level 200cc water-cooled four-stroke engine car. It is fuel-efficient and can operate on both petrol and CNG.
TMC Alif (car) without CNG costs Rs 172,500 and with CNG Rs 200,500. The other two versions, TMC Bay (delivery van) Rs 189,750 plain and Rs 217,750 with CNG and TMC Bay (pickup) Rs 166,750 plain and Rs 194,750 with CNG.
This car has been introduced as a fuel-efficient and environment-friendly product and would serve as the best replacement of motorcycle rickshaws. TMC Chief Executive Fasih Hussein Agha told Business Recorder that this car is the combination of Pakistani and Chinese technologies.
He said starting from the Chinese designed of the exterior and the interior of the car the TMC has come up with a product, which has "64 percent localisation and 36 percent Chinese components".
He said that the TMC aims at 70.25 percent localisation within the next two years.
Agha said that the car runs 25 kilometres per litre. In CNG terms it cost seventy to seventy-five paisas per kilometre.
He said that the company has a production capacity on single shift basis of 5,000 units annually. "It can be the best domestic and commercial transport for a small family.
He said that the city such as Quetta, which is one of the most polluted cities of Pakistan, had already discontinued issuance of motorcycle rickshaw licences. Around 3,000 motorcycle rickshaws are plying on the roads. "We have the capacity to gradually replace the existing fleet if need be."
TMC has received queries from Sudan, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Qatar, Chile and many other countries interested in having deals with the company.
Agha said he has orders from the interested countries and we would like to enter into export market once the local market has been managed.
He said that these vehicles have been tested thoroughly on local roads in varying atmospheric conditions during the last several months. "The outcome is very elegant, economical and very reliable." He said that some of the salient features of the car include stylish exterior in attractive colours, fuel economy, load capacity of more than 300kg and very low maintenance cost.
He said that abrupt increase of CNG kits in the local market has affected the price of the vehicle in CNG version. "We are purchasing these kits from the local importers and have no control over the market price." He said that once the demand picks up, the company would look into importing CNG kits so that the cost of the unit could be kept at a reasonable level.
