The National University of Sciences and Technology (Nust), after the success of HONET-2004, has arranged for the second time a three-day international symposium on High Capacity Optical Networks and Enabling Technologies (HONET-2005) from December 19 to 21 here at Marriott hotel.
The workshop is being organised in collaboration with University of North Carolina Charlotte, State University of New York, University of Arid Agriculture and the Comsat Institute of Information Technology.
The workshop will focus on a vitally important area of technology ie High Capacity Optical Networks and Enabling Technologies, making it one of its kinds.
The major objectives of the workshop will be the establishment of sustainable future collaborative research and educational initiatives among leading researchers and engineers from Pakistan and United States institutions.
To facilitate these goals, in addition, to the proposed technical sessions, special organisational task group meetings will be held to identify the areas of mutual interest.
A formal administrative committee will be established with specific task assignments to follow up future progress and programs. The impact of this US-Pakistan workshop/forum will be far-reaching and its benefits will extend beyond those of a one time technical workshop.
The scope of workshop will encompass various areas of telecom sector including the review of high-capacity optical networks, network security and privacy, standards and routing protocols, metro/edge networks, optical access and passive optical networks (PON), multi-agent systems, optical wireless networks, wavelength and optical burst switching, and broader implications thereof on higher education within the telecom and IT sectors.
