The LCCI President Mian Shafqat Ali, Senior Vice President Abdul Basit, Vice President Aftab Ahmad Vohra and Convenor LCCI Standing Committee on Sales Tax Sheikh Mohammad Asif have expressed gratitude to the Chairman Central Board of Revenue (CBR) Abdullah Yousaf for extending date of e-filing of tax returns till January 15.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the LCCI office-bearers said that a number of registered persons could not file their returns electronically within due date due to lacking awareness about the new system. The CBR had taken a wise step by extending the date of filing of e-returns.
Expressing concern over the rate of e-filing registration fee, they urged the CBR to curtail the e-filing registration fee and bring it to Rs 2000 instead of Rs 5000. "There exists no justification for charging Rs 5000 as NIFT registration fee as the fee for e-filing of Bill of Entry under CARE is only Rs 500".
Extension in the return-filing date would help the business community understand the new system on one hand while on the other the CBR would be able to identify the lacunae, they added.
They also demanded of the CBR to arrange more seminars on e-filing of tax returns and the LCCI was ready to extend every help in this regard. They also appreciated the Collectorate of Sales Tax and Federal Excise for bringing in a new system of filing of returns. They said that it would help save the firms from multiple problems they were earlier facing in filing their returns.
