$250 million out of pledged amount received so far: UN

The United Nations has so far received $250 million out of the pledged $550 million for its relief operations in the earthquake-hit areas of NWFP and Azad Kashmir, UN Relief Co-ordinator Jan Vandemoortele told Business Recorder here on Sunday
He said that cash flow for UN relief and rehabilitation efforts had remained good during the month of November as Norway contributed $60 million, US $21, UK $20 and $15 million each by Sweden, Canada and Germany.
The UN co-ordinator stated that cash flow had been so-so during the current month but the UN needed $15 million dollars to pay the cost of helicopter sorties for supply of food, blankets and medicines.
Vandemoortele said that the World Food Programme has made arrangements for the food supplies to one million victims up to the end of March 2006. "Government of Pakistan has made a generous contribution of 46,000 metric tonnes of wheat to the UN which considerably improved the WFP flour stock for next four months", he added.
