A 20-member delegation of the UN Foundation headed by Tedd Turner, founder of CNN and Chairman UN Foundation, met with the senior officials of the Federal Relief Commission here on Sunday.
Federal Relief Commissioner, Major General Farooq Ahmad Khan briefed the delegation on relief and rehabilitation activities of the Federal Relief Commission (FRC).
"The response of the international community towards the devastating earthquake is praiseworthy", said the Commissioner in a press release issued here.
He, however, said that the pledged aid of $6.2 billion should materialise in early time frame.
General Farooq underlined the need for meeting the immediate shelter requirements of the victims.
He informed the delegation that over 106,000 shelters have been constructed by the Army and NGOs in the areas above 5,000 feet.
Similarly 740,177 tents were provided against the projected demand of 500,000 tents while 4,920,667 blankets/quilts were supplied so far against the demand of 7,000,000.
"Big task ahead is to improve winterisation of these tents," General Farooq added.
He also informed that now the effort is shifted to providing one room shelter below 5,000 feet of altitude.
The visiting delegation was also briefed on the casualties 73,338 dead, 128,309 injured out of which 69,412 serious injuries.
The commissioner informed that 44 international and 27 domestic field hospitals are operational in the affected areas.
