The new management of the privatised Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Limited (KESC) informed that latest electronic technology has arrived and analysis of the city power supply network has started to carry out mega renovation work, said the Spokesman for the KESC here on Sunday
KESC Chief Executive Officer Frank Schmidt has sent another letter to the 20,000 utility engineers and workers to keep the staff abreast with the management philosophy. The letter appreciated the warm welcome and co-operation being extended to the new management, the spokesman added.
Steadfast efforts are being made by the new management to overcome power shortage for providing quality electricity to the people of Karachi.
"Reliable availability of electricity in the next summer will certainly raise the prestige of the KESC engineers and workers in the eyes of the customers in particular and people of Karachi in general", Scherschmidt affirmed.
Explaining the policies of the new management the communication stated that the old practice of vertical command would be replaced by the modern motivational principles of understanding and contribution towards 'Business Goals' as a team.
THE DETAILED COMMUNICATION IS AS FOLLOWS:
"Dear colleagues,
"We appreciate you for your warm welcome and thank you for the co-operation extended to the new management. We will reciprocate this warmth with empowering you with modern means of business processes, which makes you leaders of the utility business at an international level.
"You must be aware of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) business management system. The present KESC to be made healthy and flourishing organisation for advancing the present status of its employees to serve and care the consumer beyond his comprehensive requires radical improvement.
"We feel happy to let you know that we have already obtained the latest electronic technology, and started analysing the weaknesses of the current power supply network. No technological improvement can be brought about unless we have the latest knowledge of network situation and that too in the shortest possible time, soon complete data on network improvement would be ready and we will start implementing mega-renovation work for providing quality power supply to our customers.
"Steadfast efforts are being made by the new management to overcome shortage of generation for giving a better summer to the people of Karachi. Reliable availability of electricity in the next summer will certainly raise the prestige of the KESC engineers and workers in the eyes of the customers in particular and people of Karachi in general.
"The new management while transforming the organisation on modern lines would be retaining the efficient and workable traditional work practices in place for optimum results in all business processes. Aligning the company structure with the modern management process will not jeopardise the career development of the KESC employees. In fact, the idea is to enhance their careers as we consider them a valuable asset to the company due to the long-standing experience of running the utility even with outdated and obsolete machines. Fresh investment, modern technology and multiple foreign and on-job trainings will make them better engineers and workers.
"While the organisation is being transformed new positions will emerge and be filled with the most suitable persons. Each employee will be trained, and through empowerment of the staff clear objectives will be achieved. The targeted goals would be determined with consent and consultation of the performing employee and each managerial level would be a team leader.
"The old practice of vertical command would be replaced by the modern motivational principle of understanding and contribution towards Business Goals as a team. The Siemens, Operations and Management partners of the new investors shall provide skills where it can be best utilised for business success. Siemens engineers and management experts will harmoniously integrate with the KESC engineers on the basis of mutual trust and respect for each other in sharing the knowledge for the uplift of services to the customers.
"We are sure that soon the KESC employees and the customers will start benefiting from the change. We expect that all our colleagues would be in the forefront as the new management brings about this change."
