All Pakistan Organisation of Small Traders and Cottage Industries Karachi President Mehmood Hamid on Sunday demanded of the government that licensed arms be given to the traders of Karachi so that they could defend themselves in the present scenario of rising crimes.
He said that there was massive unrest amongst the traders of Karachi due to worsening law and order situation in the city. He said that incidents of theft and robberies were on the rise and police was not playing its due role to provide citizens with safety and security.
He said that protection of life and property be provided and the traders of the city.
Mehmood Hamid demanded that legal action should be taken against those who looted and attacked Tahir Memon Sorithia. He said that an FIR was registered for looting a tanker of edible oil against accused Meraj, Shahzad, Hanif and Iqbal in Chakiwara Police Station, but when Tahir Memon Sorithia reached at the police station for pointation of the accused, they attacked him in the presence of police officials.
He said that despite applications submitted to the TPO Saddar and other higher authorities no action was taken against the accused.
He said that two traders were injured by the dacoits on resistance at the marble market. He said that dacoits looted merchandise from three factories in Korangi Industrial Area.
The small trade leader charged that snatching of mobile phones at gunpoint had become an order of the day in Karachi and it seemed that there was nothing named law, rule and governance.
He said that if the government could not provide the trader community with security, at least it should give them licensed arms for self-defence. He warned that if the accused in attack on Tahir Sorithia were not arrested, the Karachi traders would start a protest drive.
Other trade leaders, Abdul Majid Chaudhry, Zubair Ansari, Khalid Noorani, Muhammad Akhtar and Mehboob Azam, also demanded providing security to the traders of Karachi.
