President General Pervez Musharraf on Monday said a strategy would be formulated to look into the reservations of the provinces on the issue of water reservoirs.
The President, along with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz discussed the water issue with the parliamentarians from Sindh in a meeting at the PM House.
The President listened to the concerns of the parliamentarians and answered their queries, He assured that all their concerns would be looked into seriously and a positive solution found.
Musharraf pointed that owing to the silting in the dams the existing reservoirs were rapidly shrinking and their capacity was reducing.
The participants also referred to the effects of global warming, which were leading to water scarcity and necessitated the need for having additional reservoirs.
"It is our national obligation to build dams and we will try to find a way to help meet country''s future water requirements," the Prime Minister told newsmen after the meeting.
Shaukat Aziz described the meeting as "positive'', and said there was a general consensus on the vital need for having water reservoirs and dams in the country to help meet the needs of agriculture.
"Unless we start working on the reservoirs now, we would miss the opportunity and there would be an acute shortage of water," he said.
The meeting was attended among others by President Pakistan Muslim League Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Secretary General PML Mushahid Hussain and Chief Minister Sindh Dr Arbab Rahim.
