Adviser to Sindh chief minister for finance M.A. Jalil informed the business community the government has decided to allot industrial plots on 25 percent payment of market prices.
Addressing a meeting of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday, he said the government has prepared allotment rules under which penalties will be imposed on those allotees who failed to utilise land for setting up industrial units in specified period.
He said rules are ready and likely to be announced in a next few days.
Replying to a question about setting up of industrial units in Trans-Lyari area adjacent to SITE, he assured he would take up the issue with the minister concern about setting up industrial units in the area
Regarding NFC award, he said all the four provinces failed to reach a consensus over distribution of funds and now they have delegated power to President to decide the issue. He hoped the NFC award issue would be settled in near future.
Regarding linking excise and taxation departments of all the four provinces along with customs departments with the computer network to discourage registration of theft vehicles, he said the Sindh excise and taxation department has been completely computerised but other provinces have to computerise their departments for linking.
He said the Sindh government would welcome linking its motor registration wing with all the four provinces.
Regarding stamp duty, he advised the business community to provide him a comparison of existing stamp duty in Sindh with other provinces so that the government should take appropriate measures to bring it at par with other provinces.
About property tax on KCCI building, he advised the business community to approach the area nazim in this regard as it comes under his jurisdiction.
However, he assured members that nazim would definitely reduce property tax because this building has already been declared a national heritage.
Welcoming the guest, KCCI president Haroon Farooki said the provincial government has declared all lands situated within the limits of Karachi district government as "urban area" and fixed the cost of agricultural land on the outskirts of Karachi at a very exorbitant rate, instead of treating it separately and fixing the rate of land on the basis of produce-index unit.
