India on Thursday decided to set free eight Pakistani prisoners as part of ongoing peace process between the two countries. "The government of India has decided to release and repatriate to Pakistan eight Pakistani prisoners on Monday," the foreign ministry said in a statement. "Earlier in November, India released 26 Pakistani prisoners."
It said the freed Pakistani nationals would be allowed to return to their homeland via Wagah border. "With this release, the total number of Pakistani prisoners freed during 2005 will be 159," the ministry added. The step is a tangible result of the 21-month-old peace process between India and Pakistan.
