District Nazim Lahore, Mian Amer Mahmood on Friday said the rail transit system in the provincial metropolis would be built on BOT (built, operate and transfer) basis for which negotiations with the foreign investors would take place next year.
While talking to a delegation of union councils' Nazims here on Friday, he said the rail transit system would benefit 300,000 people of Lahore. The chief minister has provided package for Lahore under which Rs 2 billion would be spent on construction and expansion of road network in the city while Rs 1 billion would be made available for improving sewerage and water supply facilities, he added.
The bus drivers are being restricted to wear uniform and speed limit for buses is also being fixed in the city to check road mishaps. Keeping in view shortage of traffic police in the city, the chief minister has approved restructuring of traffic police and providing facilities on the pattern of motorway police.
The police would also be authorised to remove encroachments for smooth flow of traffic, he maintained.
