PML-N Secretary General Zafar Iqbal Jhagra has called upon the people of Pakistan to forge unity in their ranks to steer the country out of the present worst situation.
Addressing a function arranged by PML-N Lawyers Forum here on Thursday, Zafar said, 'military bureaucracy' was working against the country's interests and creating hurdles in smooth functioning of the democratic institutions.
Military bureaucracy is also propagating against the politicians, he said and added they (military) had never allowed public representative government to work independently.
The PML-N leader said that whenever a democratic government had taken its roots in Pakistan, military generals toppled it illegally and unconstitutionally.
He said the government had intentionally raised the issue of Kalabagh dam with ulterior motives. Instead of politicising this issue, the government must resolve it amicably. He asked the government to evolve consensus on national issues and take all the political leaders into confidence.
All the exiled political leaders, including Nawaz Sharif, should be allowed to come back to Pakistan, while all the detained political activists must be released forthwith. Speaking on the occasion, President Supreme Court Bar Association Malik Muhammad Qayyum called for strengthening the judiciary so that problems being faced by the country could be resolved.
He said that unfortunately judiciary always remained under pressure of the government, adding that judiciary was custodian of the Constitution and fundamental rights of the people of Pakistan but in the case of 17th amendment, a dictator was allowed to amend the Constitution.
He said that the Parliament also allowed a general to act as president of Pakistan in uniform.
Among others Zafar Ali Shah, Pervez Malik, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Mujtaba Shuja, Ehsan Wyne, Wali Muhammad and Khawaja Mehmood also spoke on the occasion.
