Paying glowing tributes to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for his great qualities of leadership, President General Pervez Musharraf has said steps have been taken for making Pakistan a prosperous and dynamic country as envisioned by its founder.
"It is a matter of great satisfaction and reassurance that measures have been initiated, which will go a long way in establishing a prosperous and dynamic Pakistan as envisioned by the Quaid-e-Azam," he said while greeting the nation on the birth anniversary of the great leader, being celebrated on December 23.
The President saluted the people of Pakistan for demonstrating matchless unity in the wake of October 8 earthquake and said, "we pledge to alleviate sufferings of our quake-affected brethren by rebuilding a better future for them".
He called upon the nation to resolve to do much more than the customary practice of paying tributes to Quaid-e-Azam,
"We must translate his motto of faith, unity and discipline into reality and work resolutely and untiringly for the betterment of our people and for the greater glory of Pakistan."
The Quaid-e-Azam, the President said, was a great benefactor of the Muslims of South Asia.
"We are grateful to Allah Almighty that we were blessed with a leader of his matchless qualities at a critical juncture of our history, who led the struggle for independence that resulted in the creation of our beloved homeland, Pakistan," he said.
PM's message: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has urged the people to renew their pledge on the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam to rise above parochialism, provincialism and extremism and play due role in the nation building with spirit infused by the founding father during the independence movement.
In his message on the occasion of 129th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Prime Minister appreciated feelings, caring and sharing of the people of Pakistan showed in the wake of the catastrophe in parts of Azad Kashmir and NWFP after October 8.
The Prime Minister said: "We need to keep this spirit alive to serve interests of the people of Pakistan and our coming generations."
He said it will be, indeed, a befitting tribute to the father of the nation.
The Prime Minister said: "Today we are celebrating the 129th birth anniversary of our founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who was not only the founder of a state but also a towering statesman, an enlightened reformer and a practical visionary."
Shaukat Aziz said: "It is a matter of pride for all of us that Quaid-e-Azam possessed an unblemished character that had been praised both by his admirers as well as his adversaries."
The Prime Minister said: "Quaid-e-Azam was an embodiment of resolute determination and never gave up till he translated his vision into concrete reality."
He said: "After independence, we had to start from scratch. It was the spirit of unity, faith and discipline that Quaid-e-Azam infused into the people of Pakistan that made everyone of its citizens to join hands and perform miracles that laid foundations of a homeland for 100 million Muslims."
Shaukat Aziz said: "Today, Pakistan is a strong country of 150 million people, maintaining a huge industrial and social infrastructure and is endeavouring to provide all possible necessities of life to its entire people."
The Prime Minister said despite innumerable handicaps, "we continue to make progress in all spheres of life".
He said: "Our economy is on a strong footing as we have achieved a broad-based, vibrant and robust economic growth spurred by domestic and foreign investment."
