The Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) on Saturday alleged that the proposed Kalabagh dam was the worst conspiracy against national solidarity.
PPPP Vice-Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim told a briefing on the project here at the party's media office that the proposed reservoir would create hatred against Punjab, and asked the government to abandon it, as any project without evolving consensus among the federating units, would not be acceptable to the PPPP.
Former BB's political secretary Ms Naheed Khan believed that the government wanted to use the project as a shield to cover its failures and also a bid to create divisions among opposition parties.
Former Indus River System Authority (Irsa) chairman Engr. Fatehullah Khan said the age of the proposed dam would not be more than 15 years, therefore, it was rejected by many world experts, adding: "The proposed reservoir, therefore, cannot play a role on long-term basis in promoting agriculture and industry."
He pointed out that many other proposal on building reservoirs were available that could be handy in meeting the future irrigation needs of the country.
The meeting demanded of the rulers to let the party leader Benazir Bhutto return home, saying all cases against her were baseless and politically-motivated.
These party leaders, including Sardar Saleem, Qazi Sultan Mahmood, and members of the National Assembly Zamurad Khan and Fauzia Habib.
