National Assembly Standing Committee on Narcotics Control, led by its Chairman Dr Nisar Ahmed Jatt, on Saturday were briefed about the overall performance and operations of Pakistan Coast Guards, during a visit at PCG headquarters.
PCG Director General, Brigadier Firzok Atta Ullah briefed the visiting committee about the overall performance and different operations of the PCG during the last few years.
Meanwhile, Brig. Firzok informed the newsmen about the details of briefing, they were told that narcotics was a big problem in the country and there were total five million drug addicts here at present. He said now a days syringes were being used by drug addicts, which was one of the big reasons of some very dangerous diseases spread like AIDS.
He said the creation of awareness about the importance of narcotics control was indeed necessary at every level in the country including government machinery to general public. Brig. Firzok also lauded the performance of the PCG and said the PCG had been seized over 7,000 kilograms of narcotics during its operations in last one-year.
He further expressed the hope that visiting committee would forward its recommendations regarding problems and requirements of the PCG to the concerned ministry for immediate implementation.
Giving details about the briefing, Committee Chairman, MNA, Dr Nisar Jatt said the visiting committee members were fully satisfied with the PCG performance, adding the PCG Director General had apprised the committee about their problems and their urgent requirements including shortage of equipment and staff.
