President General Pervez Musharraf on Monday said his recently concluded visit to Sindh had been beneficial for creating awareness about the need for additional water reservoirs to meet the growing demand.
The President was chairing a high-level meeting on "Water Management Vision".
The President reiterated his resolve to construct water reservoirs, saying their early construction is imperative for the country's future.
"I will visit provinces and inform people about water management and importance of dams including Kalabagh dam," the President said.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, PML president Shujaat Hussain, PML secretary-general Mushahid Hussain Syed, information, water and power, narcotics control and interior ministers; Attorney General, special assistant to prime minister on youth affairs, chief ministers of Punjab and Sindh, minister of state for water and power, Sindh minister of irrigation and power and other officials also attended the meeting.
The President briefed participants about his recent visit to Sukkur, Hyderabad and Karachi and said he informed the people about the necessity of water management in the country.
"I will continue my efforts to apprise people about this important need of the country and, shortly, I will visit NWFP, and revisit Sindh."
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz told the meeting the government would make the report of technical committee on water reservoirs public very soon in order to take people into confidence on this important issue.
He said teams of technical experts would brief provincial cabinets, coalition partners as well as opposition parties on the water management strategy.
The Prime Minister said the report of the parliamentary committee on water will be placed before the Senate in near future and recommendations of International Panel of Experts (IPOE) on release of water downstream Kotri would also be made public.
