President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Malik Muhammad Qayyum has said that he will never compromise on supremacy of the constitution, rule of law and independence of the judiciary.
While addressing a meeting of Advocates on Record (AoRs) here at the office of Supreme Court Bar Association Lahore Registry on Tuesday, he said it could not be denied that the parliament and the Supreme Court had accepted General Pervez Musharraf as head of the state. He claimed that he had courage to tell the President at his face that he should shed his uniform so that the constitutional irritants are removed. He said he also told the President Musharraf that there should be no controversy in respect of President of the country, who is symbol of the federation.
Qayyum maintained that today General Musharraf was de-facto President of the country and as such accepted by all including the judiciary and the parliament. He dispelled the impression that he went to meet the President alone or without consulting the executive of the bar. He said the newly elected office bearers of the SCBA were committed to uphold the rule of law, independence of the judiciary and supremacy of the constitution as well as parliament.
