Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, federal secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan, said on Tuesday that all arrangements had been finalised to hold the elections of Naib Nazims in Zila Councils as well as Tehsil/Taluka and Town Councils throughout the country on December 28.
He said there are 330 Tehsil Councils, 30 Town Councils, eight City District Councils and 102 Zila Councils in all the four provinces, adding for the purpose of elections of Naib Nazims in these Councils, the Chief Election Commissioner has appointed 489 returning officers as well as 489 assistant returning officers, who will hold elections in these Councils.
Dilshad said as per information received from the returning officers for Naib Nazim in Zila/Tehsil/ Taluka/Town Councils - 453 candidates filed nomination papers in Punjab, 249 in Sindh, 84 in NWFP, and 178 candidates in Balochistan.
He also said that in 33 Zila Councils and 165 Tehsil/Taluka/Town Councils only one candidate has filed nomination papers and as a result that candidate shall be declared as returned unopposed by the returning officer of that Council.
