The Pakistan Muslim League USA has called upon the opposition parties in Pakistan to support the government in its projects for economic uplift and endeavours for national development.
The PML leaders said, the opposition should not resort to "a mere criticism" of the government, but it must also come up with positive proposals, which could be helpful in chiselling out the plans for the greater good of the nation.
The PML leaders expressed these views in their speeches on the occasion of celebration of the Quaid-e-Azam's birthday, on Sunday.
At a function held in New York, the PML leaders cut a cake and addressed the participants. The speakers included Mian Zakir Nasim, Malik Sikandar Aziz, Chaudhry Shamshad Ahmad, Afzal Gulbahar, Chaudhry Akhtar, Javed Iqbal Umwana, Ghulam Farid Langarial, Hafiz Razaur Rehman, Raja Mushtaq and Ehsanul Haq.
Zakir Nasim said the Muslim League was in the forefront to render relief to the affected people of the devastating October 8 earthquake, and now the government has chalked out an elaborate plan to rehabilitate the quake-hit people.
Sikandar Aziz said: "Because of the well-thought out and befitting domestic and foreign policies, and prudent economic uplift programmes, Pakistan today is advancing in the direction of economic, political and democratic stability."
KALABAGH DAM: Referring to the Kalabagh dam project, he said: "It is for the first time in the nation's history that the government is endeavouring to arrive at a consensus in a matter of vital national importance."
He said: "President General Pervez Musharraf deserves due appreciation of the nation, for his sincere efforts towards the best national interest." Chaudhry Shamshad said new water reservoirs were need of the hour, and 'the nation would be left far behind if a headway is not made now, based on a consensus decision.'
Afzal Gulbahar cautioned that it was imperative to take bold decisions for the sake of national development and economic stability. He said the opposition should not resort to criticism for the sake of criticism, but instead, it should come forward to cooperate with the government in undertaking the development projects.
