Pakistani pop sensation Umair Jaswal in solidarity with the people of Indian-held Kashmir and to highlight the plight of Kashmiris will be launching ‘Kashmir Theme Anthem Song’ in the next 10 days. He announced it in a press conference held in Karachi Press Club on Saturday.
Talking to media, he said, “The message we want to convey is not just for the Pakistani nation but for the whole world. I’ve noticed ever since violence in the Indian-held Kashmir escalated, our artists have been quiet about it. I’m a little disappointed in those colleagues of mine who are afraid to talk about it”.
“This anthem,” he said, “would not [only] be a Kashmir anthem, rather it would be an anthem for humanity. There’s no financial interest in it, and people are working on it on a voluntary basis,” he said.
Jaswal feels it is the duty of an artist to get involved with political issues. “See, a lot of Indian artists have been vocal. And then back in the day, Michael Jackson also made a song ‘They Don’t Care About Us’ commenting on society and politics,” added Jaswal. “I think it’s not an artist’s job to suggest policies but it’s an artist’s duty to comment on what’s happening and voice their opinions. I see that most of our artists are not talking about Kashmir, whether out of fear or anything else, I don’t know. It’s only Hamza Ali Abbasi who has been vocal about it and I fully support him,” Express Tribune reported.
Reportedly, Ali Azmat will also be part of the song and makers will also welcome other artists, singers and actors willing to join them.
