Natural gas flow to Turkey from Russia, the country's top gas supplier, has not been affected by Russia halting deliveries to Ukraine due to a price dispute, a senior Turkish energy official said on Monday.
Turkey's Black Sea neighbour Russia cut Ukraine's gas supplies on Sunday after Kiev refused to Moscow's demand for a fourfold price rise.
"We have been in touch with Russia since the problem occurred. Russia told us that there would be no problem in the gas flow to Turkey," the official told Reuters.
Turkey buys about an annual 22 billion cubic metres (bcm) of natural gas from Russia via two different routes.
The $3.5 billion Blue Stream pipeline carries Russian natural gas under the Black Sea to Turkey. Through another pipeline route via Bulgaria, Turkey also buys natural gas from Russian gas monopoly Gazprom.
Of the total Turkish purchases, about 10 bcm flows through the Ukrainian part of the pipeline, the official said.
Turkey also purchases natural gas from Iran and LNG from Nigeria and Algeria to meet its annual consumption of about 26 bcm.
