Citizen Rights Association (CRA) has strongly criticised latest increase in gas prices and expressed the fear that it would multiply the miseries of the general public.
CRA President, Chaudhry Nisar Ahmad said here on Tuesday that oil and gas companies had influence over the government, which was not allowing the policy-makers to think for public interest. "Oil prices were declining in the international market but the Oil Advisory Committee (OAC) in Pakistan was putting a cap on prices while denying downward revision in connivance with the vested interest elements present among the policy-markers," he added.
According to him, the government has also started plundering the masses by giving undue increase to gas prices. There was no need of it since gas was domestically produced and it has no link with the international market. The increase coupled with exorbitant oil prices has doubled the transportation cost that has added problems of poor man, who was already facing difficulty in making both ends meet.
He urged the President and the Prime Minister to take notice of the situation and dissolve the OAC immediately while directing the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority to take back the increase in gas prices.
