Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Tuesday said the government was committed to the development of Sindh and improving the quality of life of its people. He was talking to Minister of State for Industries Sardar Ali Nawaz Khan Mahar who called on him at Khan Garh near Sukkur and discussed matters relating to various on-going development schemes in the district.
Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat ul Ibad Khan, Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Minister for Local Government, former Justice Abdur Razzaq Thaheem and Minister for Narcotic Control Ghous Bakhsh Mahar were also present on the occasion.
The Prime Minister reiterated Federal Government's firm commitment to the development of Sindh and improving the quality of life of its peoples. He said the Federal Government had allocated a record amount of rupees 21 billion for Sindh this year under federally funded schemes principally for infrastructure development and projects pertaining to health and education in addition to clean drinking water.
The Prime Minister said the country needed more water reservoirs not only to attain water security but also to ensure water availability for agriculture, which was the main stay for the country's economy and to enhance agricultural productivity and power generation. He said the construction of new water reservoirs would also ensure continued water supply for farmers.
Prime Minister said the process of consultation with the stakeholders was still continuing and the government would take a decision in the best interest of the country and the nation. "Doing nothing is not an option as the future of our coming generation is at stake," he added.
The people of the district apprised Prime Minister of problems being faced by them.
The Minister of State for Industries Ali Nawaz Khan Mahar and his brother Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan Mahar congratulated the President and Prime Minister for providing good governance to the country and said it was making progress by leaps and bounds.
Organisational matters of the PML also came under discussion during the meeting. The Minister said Sindh was making rapid progress under the PML government and its allies and the PML had emerged as a force to be reckoned with particularly after the local bodies and district nazims elections.
Earlier, the Prime Minister was given a very warm welcome when he arrived at Sukkur Airport. Minister for Local Government former Justice Abdur Razzaq Thaheem; Minister for Narcotics Control Ghous Bakhsh Mahar received him besides notables of the area.
Later, district Nazim Sukkur Nasir Shah also called on Prime Minister at the Sukkur Airport and apprised him of the latest position with regard to the development schemes in the district particularly those relating to water supply.
The Prime Minister assured that Federal and the Provincial Government would provide him all necessary support to develop the district.
