Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) on Wednesday extended a deadline for bids in its tender to buy 50,000 tonnes of white sugar from India to February 25 from February 16, an official said.
"The extension will facilitate bidders," said a senior TCP official, who asked not to be identified. The bids will be opened after a 1030 GMT deadline on February 25, with shipment due within 15 days of the opening of letters of credit. TCP announced the tender for the import of white sugar on February 6.
Pakistan needs to import 800,000 tonnes of sugar in 2006 to meet domestic demand. It removed a four-year ban on imports from India last year after ties between the two South Asian rivals improved following a peace process at the start of 2004.
