Punjab government has allocated Rs 6.5 billion for upgradation of Basic Health Units (BHUs) in the province. This was stated by the Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi while speaking at the 13th International Pharmacy Conference here on Thursday.
Announcing to upgrade pharmacy service in the province, he announced to appoint drug inspectors at tehsil level on the occasion. He also announced four-tier promotion criteria for pharmacists in his address. He announced to make permanent, grade 17 contract pharmacists cleared by Punjab Public Service Commission in his address. He stated that with amendments in Punjab Drug Owner 1988, it will be totally implemented in next two months. He said currently there were 30,000 drug stores in the province.
He said for clinical training pharmacists students would be attached to teaching hospitals. The Chief Minister said pharmacists would be included in the committee of the hospitals. Pakistan Pharmacist Association Punjab President Professor Dr Muhammad Jamshed also spoke on the occasion.
