Thailand's Constitutional Court refused on Thursday to launch an inquiry which could have led to the dismissal of billionaire Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra following a controversial share sale by his relatives.
"The court voted eight to six to reject the petition," Judge Jumpol na Songkhla told Reuters after it met to debate charges by 28 senators that Thaksin controlled Shin Corp illegally despite handing over his shares before taking office.
The ruling was booed by 100 anti-government demonstrators, who said the rejection would only bring more street protests.
