The foreign affairs ministry on Tuesday arranged an introductory programme for the new foreign diplomats to familiarise them about Pakistan's culture, history, heritage, traditions, customs and living standards.
The first of its kind, the interaction programme for diplomats, was organised by the foreign affairs ministry and attended by more than 30 diplomats belonging to different countries.
Prominent and important personalities, including Uxi Mufti, executive director, Lok Virsa (National Institute of Folk Heritage), Raja Changez Sultan, deputy managing director, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), Mian Talat Rasheed, executive director general, Board of Investment (BoI), Dr Ashfaque Hasan Khan, director general, Debt Office and Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, presented in detail about various subjects relating to their departments.
Dr Saeed Khan Mohmand, Deputy Chief of Protocol and Yasir Mahmood Protocol Officer of the Foreign Office explained the salient features of the diplomatic activities in Pakistan and particularly in Islamabad.
Chief of Protocol Nazir Hussain welcoming the diplomats said, the interaction programme, first of its kind in history of the foreign ministry, was only to familiarise the new diplomats about various cultural and traditional activities in Pakistan.
He said it would promote and enhance the relations of Pakistan with these countries.
Nazir Hussain said Pakistan has rich cultural heritage, plenty of tourist places and many other traditionally important areas where the diplomats could go without any restriction. He said Pakistan has mixture of traditions and culture available in different parts of the country and every foreigner was free to visit and explore these areas.
Uxi Mufti explained in detail about the cultural and historical background of the country with the help of slides and films.
He said Pakistan has the culture, history and traditions, some of them over 9,000 and 5,000-year-old. The country is rich in antiques and diversified in various traditions, languages, culture and heritage.
Raja Changez Sultan explained the opportunities to explore tourism places. He said Pakistan has more than five peeks over 8,000 meters, and the country is rich in all types of tourism spots, including mountains, plains, terrains, deserts, sky resorts and many more.
